BESWICK BACKSTAMPS
Purchasing Beswick Animals can be an enjoyable and rewarding hobby for the collector. Once you become more experienced in collecting Beswick Animals, you can generally look at an animal figurine and guess that is has been made by Beswick.
After a while you get a feel and trained eye which allows you to spot Beswick made stuff fairly easily. However your job can be made easier by examining the base of the animal and look for Beswick Backstamps or Marks. Sometimes these marks are quite obvious and reasonably large so they are easy to identify.
Sometimes there are models which only have a very tiny or faint Beswick impresison typically on a hoof or paw - these are much more difficult to spot. On very old pieces the mark on the hoof or paw may have even worn off. It is still Beswick but a little bit hard to identify.
There are many examples of items Described as Beswick when they are in fact a similar Figurine made by a different manufacturer. This quite often happens in online auctions, where the owner of the item incorrectly describes the item as Beswick. A lot of the time this is accidental however it would pay to purchase from reputable sellers which have a background in buying and selling Beswick Animals.
We have included some Beswick Backstamp images below for you to use as a reference to help you in successfully identifying Beswick marks.
